The new feature, which is coming to mobile and desktop devices, shows up when you head to shopping.google.com. Business Read on The Verge TechCreating engaging videos isn’t only about the visuals. So much of the appeal of good video content is about the audio, but finding (or maybe even creating) the right audio effects can be a time-consuming process. At its annual MAX conference, Adobe is showing off Project Super Sonic, an experimental prototype demo that shows how […]
Entertainment Read on TechCrunchRoku is making your TV more like a surveillance center. It’s rolling out a carousel of all your Roku security camera feeds that will automatically rotate when cameras detect activity or during timed intervals. In addition to this update, Roku is expanding TV notifications to include alerts from all your cameras — not just your video doorbell. This can give you a heads-up when your baby’s waking up in another room or if your dog is getting into trouble outside. You don’t have to turn on the notifications if you don’t want to, as I’d imagine they’d get pretty distracting while you’re immersed in a show or movie. These new features will roll out this winter, and they’re compatible with all Roku cameras and...
Politics Read on The Verge TechYouTube is getting a bunch of small but handy new features, like the ability to more finely tune your playback speed, new tools to collaborate on playlists, a sleep timer, and more. For me, a person who has written multiple times about video playback speeds, YouTube’s new speed controls are definitely the highlight. With the updated controls, you can select playback speeds in .05 increments instead of .25 increments, giving you a lot more options for exactly how fast or slow you want to watch a video. Playback speed is still capped at 2x — maybe someday it’ll get bumped up higher than that. The upgrades to playlists sound useful, too. You’ll be able to build collaborative playlists by sharing a link (or, in a feature “coming soon” to...

Health Read on WIRED Top StoriesSTUTTGART, Germany—Porsche made its reputation with its rear-engined sports cars, but today it's the SUVs that even make that possible. But it makes those SUVs in order to appeal to Porsche drivers, offering five-door practicality but with driver-engaging handling, and a certain level of fit and finish. I've always thought of the Macan as Porsche's answer to the hot hatch, and now it's gone electric. We tested two variants of the new Macan EV earlier this year, and came away impressed. Now we've had seat time in another pair: the $75,300 rear-wheel drive Macan, and the $84,900 Macan 4S. Ars has written quite a lot about the development of the Macan's Premium Platform Electric, which it helped develop with VW sibling Audi. Porsche has a lot of history adapting VW group platforms, from the previous generations of Cayenne and Macan all the way back to the very first car to wear the family name, 356/1, which spiced up some Beetle bits in a handsome roadster body. The entry level Macan is unique among the range for having just a single electric motor, which drives the rear wheels. With a nominal 335 hp (250 kW)—boosted to 355 hp (265 kW) with launch control—and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm), it's the least-powerful Macan but also the lightest (by 242 lbs/110 kg) and the most efficient, with an EPA range estimate of 315 miles (506 km) from the 100 kWh (95 kWh useable) battery pack. Business Read on Ars TechnicaThe GPUs and other chips used to train AI communicate with each other inside datacenters through “interconnects.” But those interconnects have limited bandwidth, which limits AI training performance. A 2022 survey found that AI developers typically struggle to use more than 25% of a GPU’s capacity. One solution could be new interconnects with much higher […]
